Collaborative law is a relatively new approach to resolving family law issues. In collaborative law, each spouse hires an attorney. These attorneys agree that they will work only towards a settlement, and will not litigate the matter. If the divorcing spouses are unable to reach a settlement, each attorney would withdraw from the case, and each spouse would have to find a new lawyer. In collaborative law, the parties agree to conduct respectful negotiations in good faith. The overriding goal is to negotiate towards a resolution that each party finds favorable. Collaborative law looks to provide a less contentious and less adversarial process in divorce. Collaborative law may be more creative, and less destructive than divorce litigation.

We have successfully mediated disputes for the Allegheny County Child Custody Program, the U.S. Postal Service and private individuals, and can refer you to a large pool of court-approved mediators if situations warrant.
