Attorney Jose W. Hernandez-Cuebas returns to Iwanyshyn & Associates as a vital member of the team. For Iwanyshyn & Associates, Attorney Hernandez-Cuebas provides Family Law clients who reside or work in Beaver and Butler counties, as well as the North Hills of Allegheny County, a second location to meet with our attorneys and staff.

Jose brings more than forty years of litigation experience to the firm. He is a tenacious litigator, with a penchant for research. He has high client compassion and is an outstanding listener and thorough communicator with both clients and opposing counsel.

He has extensive experience across a broad swath of legal advocacy: from defending criminal clients, leading teams of as many as twenty attorneys, drafting legal legislation as corporate counsel on legal matters to the State of New York focusing on higher education, litigation before United States Circuit Court, as well as private practice. Attorney Hernandez-Cuebas has a strong and long history of advocating for children, having worked in the Rape and Child Abuse Unit, as well as the Narcotics Unit of Allegheny County.

Professionally, he has practiced as Senior Litigator, Federal Public Defender for the Eastern District of North Carolina, Deputy Counsel, New York State Higher Education Services Corporation, Deputy Commissioner and Counsel, New York State Department of Correctional Services, Deputy Attorney General Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General, Senior Trial Assistant District Attorney District Attorney of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

In private practice, Attorney Hernandez-Cuebas has supported clients in general law with an emphasis on criminal defense.

Personal

First and foremost, Jose loves exotic food and is quite the chef. He cans his own vegetables, makes pasta from scratch, and has a year-round vegetable and herb garden to supply his culinary desires for the most fresh and flavorful spices. His next passion is craftsmanship, especially cabinetry and tile work. He is a master cabinet maker and enjoys creating tile mosaics. Further, Jose is a “gear-head”, loving all manner of cars – the faster the better!

Education

Jose’s undergraduate studies resulted in two Bachelor of Science degrees: one in Industrial Psychology and a second in Business Management, from Pennsylvania State University (State College). As an undergraduate, he planned to pursue the Law and entered Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, PA obtaining his Juris Doctorate. Attorney Hernandez-Cuebas has been admitted to many Bar Memberships: Supreme Courts of Pennsylvania and The United States, Court of Appeals of New York, US Court of Appeals (First, Second, Third, Fourth and Sixth Circuits).
