John M. “JB” Barentine

The career of JB Barentine has taken him around the world several times, first below the water then above the clouds. Along the thirty year journey, JB risen from the “deck plate” (shop floor) to the C-level. His executive leadership has produced results in numerous industries and companies. As a highly successful, hand-on, technical leader, he has grown the top and bottom line in a variety of roles including Project and Program Management, Engineering, Material and Supply Chain Management, as well as Operations/Manufacturing. Additionally, he excelled in customer-facing leadership roles such as Strategic Planning & Business Development.

Recently, as a Rain Maker responsible for creating external seed or path-finder projects and nurturing them through pilot trials into production programs, he was responsible for the sale, delivery and installation of more than $150MM USD in highly engineered hardware and software systems to US and International markets. Customers included US and foreign Governments and Governmental Organizations, international scientific endeavors (all manner of astronomy and fundamental science experimentation), the advanced, light manufacturing of consumer goods and semiconductor systems. Additionally, he has vast experience in heavy manufacturing industries, as well as US and Foreign Space and Defense systems.

Earning honors through academics and professional studies, he has a broad and deep understanding of many engineering disciplines, organizational development and operational effectiveness. He completed undergraduate work at Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), and a dual fellowship at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) that resulted in an MS Degree (Environmental Studies) and post-MS/Professional degree (Systems Engineering).

Following a highly successful career in the US Navy (Submarines and Engineering Duty), JB was selected to executive positions in the AeroSpace/Defense Industry. In a series of diverse positions, in addition to exceeding business goals, he mentored the next generation of engineering, program management and business development professionals.

Over the course of his military and civilian career, he earned accreditation and designation as a Professional Engineer (PE), a Program Management Professional (PMP), and Defense Acquisition Professional (DAWIA) all now inactive. He earned and received myriad other executive certifications in leadership, operations and engineering. He has lead and managed organizations from the thousands to the few with equal proficiency, effectiveness and customer focus.

Empire Roofing & More is a construction company focusing installing roofing and related exterior systems for owners of homes, religious structures, businesses and light construction in the Western Pennsylvania region.

JB’s personal motto is Thrive-ON !!

“I am the proud parent of two adult children, with whom I relish spending time, whenever possible and as often as they are on this continent! Upon retirement from the US Navy, I docked in Pittsburgh, PA, and now call it my homeport.” For more than a decade, he lived in Highland Park. He now works and resides in Allison Park.

He is married to Deborah Iwanyshyn, and they love to “Thrive-ON !!” together through entertaining, exercising and exploring singing and music. They are active in their church (campuses in Wexford, Sewickley Valley, East Liberty, Oakland, Dormont plus others to come). They support local community development activities including Homewood Renaissance Organization, and pet-friendly efforts such as Animal Friends.
